Police: Brentwood man charged in armed robberies
A Brentwood man who is suspected in a string of armed robberies was arrested Tuesday night after he robbed a Brentwood travel agency at knifepoint, police said.
Yovany Castro, 32, of 42 Bergen St., was charged with six counts of first-degree robbery, Suffolk County police said. He was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court, Central Islip.
Police said Castro was arrested after robbing the Servi Travel agency at about 6:30 p.m. Police said Castro walked into the agency waving a knife and demanding money. He fled in a green Toyota Camry, but was followed by a witness to nearby Nostrand Avenue, police said.
The witness flagged down police officers, who stopped and arrested Castro.
Police said detectives determined Castro was responsible for "numerous other similar armed robberies" in Brentwood and Central Islip dating to April 2009 - and said the investigation is continuing.
