A 9-year-old boy was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center on Thursday after being burned by a candle at a home in Brentwood, police said.

Suffolk County police did not release information concerning the extent of his burns or the circumstances that led to the accident. The case was investigated by detectives who determined that the burning was not criminal in nature, police said.

A 911 call reporting the accident was received at 11:41 a.m., and officers, as well as volunteers from the Brentwood Fire Department and Brentwood Legion Ambulance responded to the home on Brentwood Parkway, police said.
