Police chasing a suspect near the Brentwood station delayed at least two Long Island Rail Road trains for more than 30 minutes Thursday morning, a spokeswoman for the commuter service said.

Spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said police from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Suffolk County asked the LIRR to hold two trains -- one due in Penn Station and another due in Ronkonkoma -- as they pursued a suspect on the tracks near Brentwood.

Police called to hold the trains at 8:58 a.m., she said. The trains were back in motion at 9:11, after police apparently finished their pursuit.

Neither Anders nor a Suffolk County police spokeswoman had any other details of the police action.

The trains affected were Penn Station to Ronkonkoma, due at 7:47 a.m., and the Ronkonkoma to Penn Station, due at 10:32 a.m.

The westbound train to Penn Station was 41 minutes late, the LIRR said.
