Three masked men armed with rifles forced their way into a Commack house Wednesday, beating and robbing the resident, Suffolk County police said.

Fourth Squad detectives said a 21-year-old man was returning to his home on Veterans Memorial Highway at about 9:30 p.m. when the three men forced him inside.

The men, apparently armed with rifles, beat the man and demanded cash. After getting an undisclosed amount, police said the men fled.

Police said the bandits also took the victim's cell phone, so to alert authorities he sent an e-mail to a friend asking him to call police.

The victim was then taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, where he was treated and released for head injuries, police said in a release.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers, 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
