Police: Drag race ends in crashes; 2 drivers arrested
Two teens were arrested Friday after their street racing in Patchogue ended in separate car accidents, Suffolk police said.
Sefa Bayram, 18, of Patchogue, was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz east on Saxton Avenue when he hit a utility pole shortly before 6 p.m., police said.
Police said Bayram was racing Uzay Karakaya, 19, of Patchogue, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The car veered off Saxton and struck a tree.
Police said there were no injuries.
Bayram and Karakaya were arrested and charged with unlawful speed contest and reckless driving, police said.
