An 80-year-old woman was killed Monday in Holbrook when she turned in front of a tractor trailer and was hit, Suffolk police said.

Anita McCauley was driving a 1999 Saturn west on Veterans Highway at about 1:10 p.m. when she attempted to make a left turn or U-turn at Broadway Avenue. Her car was struck on the passenger side and heavily damaged by the tractor tailer driven by David Murphy, 46, of Manorville.

Murphy was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.

McCauley was taken to the same hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. No other details were immediately available. Suffolk police withheld her name pending notification of a relative.
