Police: Driver falls asleep, hits tree
A Mattituck man who fell asleep at the wheel and struck a tree has ended up in the hospital, police said.
Fortunately for Jeffrey J. Boomer, 19, his injuries weren't serious, Southold Town police said.
The single-car accident occurred Monday at 11:54 p.m. on Peconic Lane in Peconic.
Police said Boomer was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital by Southold Fire Department Rescue for treatment of cuts, scratches and bruises.
