A Smithtown man admitted to snorting heroin before crashing his Toyota into another vehicle Wednesday afternoon on the Sunken Meadow Parkway near Exit SM2 in Commack, State Police said.

Frank Lynch, 54, was arrested and charged with DWAI / Drugs, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, having a controlled substance not in an original container and several traffic violations, including unlicensed operation.

Police said Lynch failed field sobriety tests after the crash and said he admitted snorting heroin. Police said troopers also recovered nine envelopes containing heroin and a bottle containing an Alprazolam pill, which is used to treat panic disorders.

Police said Lynch made an unsafe lane change, crashing into a Land Rover at 1:47 p.m. Wednesday. Police said he had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. He is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 22.
