Icy roads are believed to be a contributing factor in a one-car crash Tuesday night on the Shirley-Mastic Beach border that left a 26-year-old Shirley woman seriously injured, police said.

Suffolk County police said Melissa Loiacono was driving her 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she lost control on southbound Mastic Road, just south of Mastic Beach Road, at 8:44 p.m., striking a tree.

Loiacono was transported by Mastic Beach Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with undisclosed serious injuries.

Police said the investigation into the crash is continuing and detectives are asking that anyone with information call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
