A Bay Shore man was arrested and is being charged with drunken driving after he lost control of his truck in Brightwaters early Friday morning, crashing into a tree and injuring himself and a male passenger, police said.

The crash occurred on the eastbound Sunrise Highway north service road at Ackerson Boulevard at about 3:20 a.m., Suffolk County police said.

Police said the driver, identified as Thomas Power, 69, had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Bay Shore Fire Department and the police Emergency Service Unit.

Police said Power was driving his 2002 Dodge Durango on the service road when he lost control, striking the tree.

Both he and the passenger, whose identity was not released, were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Power is being charged with driving while intoxicated and said he will face arraignment at a later date.
