A Southampton man who was arrested on a felony drunken driving charge Sunday is being held for federal immigration agents on a deportation warrant, Southampton Town Police said.

Mesias Martinez, 55, was speeding on the Sag Harbor Turnpike in Bridgehampton on Sunday at about 8:43 a.m., police said. He was found to be intoxicated and was arrested on a DWI charge, police said.

Police later discovered that Martinez was wanted by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement on a deportation warrant and had an active bench warrant for failure to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court, according to a news release.

Martinez's DWI charge is a felony because he has a previous conviction for drunken driving in the past 10 years, police said. He also is with charged aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.

Police said after his arraignment on local charges Martinez will be turned over to federal agents.
