A Smithtown man faces drunken-driving charges and traffic violations after he was stopped for erratic driving on the Sunken Meadow Parkway in Smithtown, New York State Police said.

A trooper responding to a call about an erratic driver on the northbound parkway spotted a gray Mercury near Route 25 at about 6:44 p.m. Wednesday, according to a report.

The trooper stopped the driver, Scott Blum, 46, of Smithtown, and "detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage," the report said.

Blum failed sobriety tests, was arrested and then produced a breath-analyzer reading of .08 percent, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated and several traffic violations. His arraignment information at First District Court in Central Islip was not immediately available.
