Police find missing N.J. couple on LI
Occupants of a Buick being driven erratically on Montauk Highway in Eastport early Saturday were not intoxicated, but an elderly, disoriented couple who had been reported missing in New Jersey, Suffolk County police said after an officer on the department's drunken-driving team pulled them over.
Officer Kevin Wustenhoff, assigned to the department's Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team, called for rescue personnel to take New Jersey residents William Grainger, 74, and his wife, Juanita Grainger, 83, to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment of pre-existing medical conditions.
Police later discovered the two were the subject of a Silver Alert put out about midnight Friday by the Monroe Township Police Department in Middlesex County, N.J. The department and the Graingers' family have been notified, police said.
