A short pursuit ended when a driver who ran a red light in Coram crashed into building materials at a construction site, then fled on foot - leaving behind his injured passengers, police said.
Suffolk County police said no one was seriously injured and they are still searching for the driver.
The incident began at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when a patrol officer saw a 1996 Jaguar run a red light on southbound Route 112 in Coram, police said. The officer tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver ran another red light, turned off his headlights and drove on, police said.
The officer began to chase the driver, but when the driver tried to make a left at the next corner, Glenmere Lane, police said, he struck concrete castings used for commercial sewer installations.
The driver fled, police said.
A front-seat passenger was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was treated and released. There were two rear-seat passengers, police said.
One refused medical attention. The other was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken collarbone and a concussion, police said.
