A Greenport man has been charged with rape after Southold police said he had sex with a 12-year-old Greenport girl.

Erick W. Ramirez, 20, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in Southold Town Justice Court and ordered held on $250,000 bail.

A Department of Homeland Security immigration detainer also was placed on Ramirez, who had entered the United States illegally, according to police.

The detainer is a notice to local law enforcement to inform them that Immigration and Customs Enforcement intends to take custody of the person, according to the agency's website.
