A 1-year-old got her hand trapped so tightly in a bathtub drain Tuesday that the police had to cut out a chunk of the tub and take her to the hospital with it still attached, officials said.

The four Suffolk emergency service section officers then worked with Stony Brook University Hospital staff for around two hours to “remove the bathtub from the child’s hand,” the police statement said.

The child, who lives in Shirley, should fully recover from her ordeal, the police said.

Alerted by a 911 caller at about 10:30 a.m., it took Officers Steven Bardak, Mark Collins, James Jackson and Michael Viruet about 20 minutes to make the initial cut through the tub.

The Mastic Ambulance Company then took the toddler to the hospital, police said.
