A stranger sneaked through a window into a Holbrook woman's home and into her bed, attacking her in the middle of the night before fleeing with cash from her pocketbook, Suffolk County police said.

Det. Sgt. Daniel Molloy declined to say whether the woman, whose name was not made public, was sexually assaulted during the attack, which happened Saturday at about 2 a.m. off Coates Avenue.

The woman is in her 40s, he said. She was home alone and was asleep before the break-in, said Molloy, a supervisor of the Patchogue-based Fifth Precinct detectives squad.

She struggled with her attacker, a man described as being in his early 20s, about 5-foot-10, between 160 and 180 pounds, and wearing a dark pullover jacket and baseball cap.

"We're hoping that someone might have seen a suspicious person" in the neighborhood, Molloy said.

Police detectives want anyone with information about the crime or the attacker to call their hotline: 800-220-TIPS.
