Police: Huntington Station resident killed in crash

One person is dead and another critically injured after a two-car crash in Huntington Station Friday night.

The crash between a black 2003 Acura TL sedan and a 2013 Toyota Sienna minivan occurred just before 8:30 p.m. at Pidgeon Hill Road and Windham Drive.

Coles Jacquet, 30, of Huntington Station, a passenger in the Acura, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant with the Suffolk County medical examiner's office.

The Acura's driver, Fermin Estevez, 23, of Greenlawn, was taken by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital and was listed in critical condition with head injuries. Estevez was southbound on Pidgeon Hill when his car crossed into the northbound lane and struck the Toyota minivan, driven by Anthony Depalo of Huntington Station.

Depalo and his wife, Sharon, both 34, and their three children -- a 5-year-old boy, a 3-year-old boy, and a 6-month-old girl -- were taken by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad to Huntington Hospital. Depalo and his children were treated and released. His wife was treated for minor injuries.

About 10:15 p.m. Friday, Pidgeon Hill Road was still blocked off as crime scene investigators worked to determine how the crash happened. The Huntington Manor Fire Department also responded.

Police so far say no charges have been filed and there was no criminality in the crash.

The vehicles were impounded for routine safety checks as the investigation continues.
