Suffolk police Saturday identified the victim in Friday's fatal accident on the Long Island Expressway that closed the road and snarled traffic for hours as Victor Andrad, 48, of Brentwood.

Police said Andrad's Lincoln Town Car struck a guardrail near Exit 48 in Melville, sending the vehicle skidding to a stop in the westbound LIE's middle lane. Andrad then got out of his car and an oncoming tractor-trailer tried to swerve to avoid him.

Andrad was struck by the truck's trailer, killing him at the scene, police said. The tractor-trailer's driver, Gesim Ejlli, 47, of Michigan, was not charged, police said.

Andrad's family could not be reached Saturday.

A sign for a livery service was on the back of the Lincoln. A manager for the service did not immediately return a call for comment last night.
