State Police have identified a woman who was fatally struck by a car on the Northern State Parkway in Huntington Thursday night after she hit a guardrail, then got out of her car to inspect the damage.

Ellen Micca, 43, of Commack, lost control of her vehicle as she drove west between Exits 40 and 41 around 6:40 p.m. and hit the rail, disabling her car, police said.

She exited her car, presumably to check for damage, police said, and was then hit as she walked in the right lane of the parkway.

Police said Micca was hit by several vehicles - some whose drivers might not have realized they had hit a pedestrian.

Three cars stopped at the scene, police said. None of the drivers were charged or ticketed. The road was closed for about 4 1/2 hours.

Reached at home, Micca's family members declined to comment Friday.

Police said the investigation is continuing. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident can call 631-231-6389.
