A 23-year-old Hampton Bays man was arrested and charged with driving while impaired by drugs after he tried to flee the scene of a routine traffic stop Thursday evening in Mastic -- driving over an officer's foot in the process, police said.

The officer, from the Suffolk County police Seventh Precinct, was treated at a hospital.

Police said Justin Kline, of West Tiana Road, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and resisting arrest.

He is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said a 911 caller reported a "possible drunken driver" on Parkview Drive in Mastic Beach at about 6:10 p.m. and that the responding officers spotted the 1995 Cadillac driven by Kline on Mastic Road near Mastic Beach Road -- and instituted a traffic stop.

During that stop, police said, Kline tried to flee, driving over an officer's foot in the process. Police said Kline then stopped the vehicle a few hundred feet down the block and locked himself in the car.
