Human remains have apparently washed up on a beach in Amagansett, police said Tuesday.

A person walking along the beach "discovered what appears to be unidentified human remains," East Hampton Det. Sgt. Chris Anderson told Newsday.

Citing the ongoing investigation, police said they could not discuss other details. It was not immediately clear if the body was that of a man or woman or whether the person had been a victim of foul play.
