Clerk hurt in Hauppauge convenience store robbery, cops say
A clerk at a 7-Eleven store in Hauppauge suffered a minor injury during an early morning robbery Monday, police said.
Suffolk County police received a 911 call at 1:49 a.m. reporting a possible robbery at the store on Town Line Road. Police said the robber displayed "what appeared to be a gun" -- and demanded cash.
Investigators are now confident the weapon was a BB gun. The clerk apparently was struck by a fired BB and suffered a minor wound that required stitches at Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
The robber was described as 6-foot tall with a thin build.
Police did not detail how much cash was taken.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
All calls will remain confidential, police said.
