Police: Man charged with DWI in crash

A driver who struck a guardrail while exiting the eastbound Southern State Parkway onto the Robert Moses Causeway in West Islip early Thursday was subsequently arrested on a charge of drunken driving, police said.
Carlos E. Ortiz, whose personal information was not immediately released by police, was arrested after the one-car crash and charged with driving while intoxicated and other traffic violations, State Police said. Police said Ortiz registered a 0.14 percent blood-alcohol content. The legal limit in New York State is 0.08 percent.
Police said Ortiz lost control of his 2006 BMW as he exited the Southern State just after 1 a.m., crashing into the center median guardrail. Police said Ortiz was not injured.
