Police: Man drove into oncoming traffic

Officers seized a 43-year-old man's car after he drove drunk into oncoming traffic Thursday afternoon in Peconic, police said.

Southold Town police said 911 calls reported John Moore of Peconic driving "in oncoming lane of traffic." Moore was arrested after a traffic stop on Depot Lane in Peconic at 3:26 p.m.

Police said officers found an open beer can in the car.

Moore was charged with driving while intoxicated, having an open alcohol container in his vehicle and other vehicle and traffic violations. Police said they also seized the vehicle because Moore had a prior DWI. He was held for arraignment Friday morning.
