Police: Man had BB gun on LIRR
Police responding to a 911 call early Thursday about a man with a gun on a Long Island Rail Road train discovered the pistol was a BB gun, but arrested the man anyway -- after they learned he had an outstanding warrant in Suffolk.
Reginald Cadet, 22, of Huntington Station was arrested on the warrant for first-degree criminal contempt, Suffolk County police said.
Cadet had been removed from the eastbound train at the Greenlawn station at 12:04 a.m. after a passenger called 911 to report a man with a gun aboard the train, police said.
Police said the gun, which they said Cadet carried in his waistband, turned out to be a BB gun. It was not immediately clear why Cadet had the gun.
Police said officers learned Cadet had an outstanding warrant -- and said First Squad detectives made the arrest following an investigation. Police could not immediately say what type of incident had led to the warrant.
