A male pedestrian is in critical condition after being hit while crossing Carleton Avenue in East Islip early Saturday by a vehicle that drove away from the scene, Suffolk County police said.

The vehicle, possibly a pickup truck, fled southbound on Carleton Avenue after the crash one-quarter mile south of Sunrise Highway at about 3:10 a.m., police said.

The man, whose name isn't yet being released, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
