Police: Man robbed at knifepoint on Riverhead street
Police are searching for three armed men who robbed a man at knifepoint late Monday night on a street in Riverhead.
The robbery occurred on Third Street at about 10:10 p.m., Riverhead Town police said.
The victim, whose identity was not released, was not injured.
Police said the victim told them he was exiting his vehicle when the trio approached and, with one of the men holding a knife to his chest, demanded cash and his cellphone.
Police said that after stealing the victim's phone, the trio fled on foot, headed west along railroad tracks behind the house.
A canine unit responded to search for the suspects and recovered what police called "several evidentiary items."
Police declined to detail the type of evidence found.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to call detectives at 631-727-4500, ext. 633.
