Police are searching for a man who robbed a bank in Shirley Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the man walked into the Bridgehampton National Bank branch on Montauk Highway at about 12:05 p.m., handed the teller a demand note, got money and fled. Police did not say how much had been stolen.

The robber, described as being about 6 feet tall with a "medium to large build," in his late 40s or early 50s, was wearing glasses, a blue knit cap, a dark hooded ski jacket, blue jeans and white sneakers, Suffolk County police said.

Major Case Investigations Unit detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the bank robbery to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
