Police are searching for the shooter who fired a bullet into the leg of a 19-year-old man late Tuesday during a party at the victim's North Amityville home.

Darryl Walker was outside his Smith Street home about 10:45 p.m. when he was shot in the left calf, said First Precinct Det. Lt. Robert Edwards.

"We don't believe it was a random shooting," he said. "We believe he was targeted."

Walker was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and released, police said. The bullet went through his calf, police said.

ShotSpotter, a system that warns authorities of sounds of gunfire, detected two gunshots, Edwards said.

Several people were outside with Walker when he was shot, Edwards said, and detectives have been trying to find witnesses willing to detail what happened.

The motive for the shooting was not clear, police said.

Walker is scheduled to be sentenced July 20 after pleading guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, in connection with a Dec. 23 incident, according to online court records.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
