Police: Man shot in leg in Wyandanch
Police responding to a Shot Spotter call in Wyandanch were able to locate the victim, who had been shot in the leg, after being notified by a hospital that the man had taken himself there Friday.
Suffolk County police said they were withholding the name of the hospital to protect the 24-year-old victim. Police also withheld the man's name and address, saying only that he is from Wyandanch.
The Shot Spotter device alerted police to the shooting on New Avenue at 6:30 a.m. But, responding officers had been unable to locate the victim.
Police said the hospital later notified them that a man with a gunshot wound to the leg had taken himself to its emergency room. The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
