Police: Man took cash from church donation box

A Huntington man was arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing money from a church donation box, Suffolk police said.

George Kanganis, 47, of 320 Nassau Rd., was charged with petit larceny and possession of burglary tools.

An employee of the Church of St. Patrick on West Main Street saw a man taking cash from a candle donation box at 10:36 a.m., police said.

Officers responding to the 911 call arrested Kanganis a short time later, police said.

Kanganis was to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Central Islip, police said.
