A North Babylon man faces burglary and arson charges after allegedly trying to break into a drive-through convenience store Friday, Suffolk County police said.

Henry Richard, 40, was using a torch to cut open the acrylic glass on a sliding door at The Barn, a convenience store at 1287 Deer Park Ave., at about 3 a.m., police said.

Richard tried to run from police when they arrived, but he was caught a short distance away, police said.

He is charged with attempted burglary, arson and possession of burglar tools, police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
