Police: N. Babylon man charged with DWI
A North Babylon man who was parked on the shoulder of the Ocean Parkway in Babylon early Friday faces a drunken driving charge, state police said.
At about 12:01 a.m., troopers patrolling the parkway eastbound, east of Gilgo Beach, saw a gold Toyota parked on the shoulder.
As they spoke with the driver, Robert Shank, 47, they detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Troopers also said Shank had bloodshot, watery eyes and failed sobriety tests. New York's legal limit is .08.
Shank was arrested, charged with DWI and later produced a positive breath analyzer reading of .18 percent, police said.
He is charged with DWI and traffic violations and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on April 30.
