Police: East Islip man charged with public lewdness after running on parkway half-naked
An East Islip man found on the side of the Southern State Parkway on Friday night wearing only a T-shirt and sneakers has been charged with public lewdness, State Police said.
Authorities responded to a call at 10:17 p.m. of a half-naked man running on the eastbound parkway, just west of Montauk Highway.
Troopers found Robert Zimmerman, 57, of Belmore Avenue, on the right shoulder and apprehended him after he ran into a wooded area off the parkway. Zimmerman's pants were later found in the woods, police said.
Zimmerman was charged with public lewdness, a class B misdemeanor, and released on an appearance ticket.
He is due back in Suffolk County First District Court on Aug. 31.
