Police: Off-duty Suffolk cop revives man

An off-duty Suffolk County police officer revived an elderly man, who had suffered cardiac arrest and had no pulse and wasn't breathing in Mount Sinai on Friday.

Suffolk County police said Lance Prager, an off-duty Emergency Service Section officer had just left a training session when he saw the man suffer cardiac arrest at the Agway of Port Jefferson store at 295 Rte. 25A at 3:27 p.m.

The 86-year-old man dropped to the floor and had no pulse or respiration. Officer Prager asked an employee to retrieve his medical bag from his car and started CPR.

Sixth Precinct Patrol Officers Anthony Passarella and Frank Ribaudo arrived and started doing compressions and helped administer a shock with a defibrillator, police said.

The man started breathing on his own and was taken by Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson. He is in the critical care unit in critical but stable condition, police said.
