Both directions of a stretch of Route 111 in Smithtown have reopened, police said on Wednesday afternoon, after a motorist struck and knocked down a utility pole forcing the closure.

The accident was reported at 1:15 a.m. and the road had been closed in both directions from Cross Street to Lexington Avenue, a police spokesman said earlier.

There was no information on possible injuries.
