A Bay Shore woman was seriously injured when the stolen car she was riding in crashed after a police pursuit, Suffolk County police said.

Just before 10 p.m. Sunday, a highway patrol officer pulled over a 2012 Kia Forte that was speeding on the westbound service road of Sunrise Highway at Commack Road in Islip, police said. The Kia driver sped off as the officer approached the vehicle, police said.

The officer pursued the Kia at speeds of more than 100 mph, but ended the chase after the Kia almost hit several other cars, according to police. The officer lost sight of the Kia near Grand Boulevard in Deer Park, police said.

Officers said they found the Kia minutes later at West Sixth Street and Central Avenue in Deer Park. The vehicle had crashed into a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which then had caught fire, police said.

The Kia driver, an unidentified man in his 40s, tried to run from the wreckage, but was caught by officers a short distance away, police said.

Police said the passenger in the Kia, Brooke Moody, 33, suffered serious head and facial injuries and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, as was the driver of the Kia and the Chevrolet driver, identified as Frank Cassano, 42, of Lindenhurst.

Cassano suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said the Kia had been reported stolen from Bay Shore on Aug. 27.

The two vehicles were impounded for safety checks, and the investigation is continuing. Police said charges are pending, and ask anyone who might have seen the pursuit or the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
