A pedestrian was struck and killed late Friday night while crossing Middle Country Road in Coram, Suffolk County police said.

Officers said Douglas Redmond, 31, of Coram was crossing the road about 500 feet west of Mount Sinai-Coram Road when he was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado at 11:20 p.m.

The driver, Tyler Miazga, 29, of Coram, remained at the scene and was not arrested, police said.

Redmond was rushed to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where he was pronounced dead. Miazga was not injured, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
