He was driving a white or silver Honda CR-V when police said he made an illegal left-hand turn out of a 7-Eleven parking lot in Melville late last month, colliding with another vehicle -- and then fleeing the scene.

Now Suffolk County police are looking for the man who caused the accident -- and even stopped to apologize to the victim -- but who they said, nevertheless, fled the scene. The crash occurred about 10:20 p.m. July 30 just outside the 7-Eleven on Ruland Road near Broadhollow Road, Route 110, police said.

The victim, a woman whose identity was not released, was driving a Ford Escape. She was not injured, police said.

The driver of the alleged hit-and-run Honda was captured on video surveillance footage inside the 7-Eleven. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying him or his vehicle.

Anyone with information about the crash is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
