Suffolk police arrested a Huntington Station woman who left her 10-month-old baby boy unattended in a car while she shopped at a Huntington Station store Sunday, police said.

Tirza Artiga-Acosta, 20, of 32 West Hills Rd., Huntington Station, left her son for about 30 minutes while she shopped inside a Target store at 124 E. Jericho Tpke. Artiga-Acosta was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and will be arraigned at a later date, police said.

A woman noticed the baby crying in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Target shortly after 2:10 p.m., police said. The woman, with the assistance of another customer, used a car antenna to open the car door and rescue the baby, police said. The woman then called 911.

The baby boy was transported by Huntington Community First Aid Squad to Huntington Hospital for evaluation. The baby was released to a family member.

Police said they reported the incident to the Suffolk County Department of Social Services' Child Protective Services Bureau.
