Police say Va. man shot in face in Wyandanch
A Virginia man believed to be visiting friends in Central Islip was shot in the face early Tuesday in Wyandanch, Suffolk County police said.
First Squad detectives said a 911 caller reported at 12:48 a.m. that a man had been shot on North 17th Street and was being driven to a hospital. Nurses at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore later reported a shooting victim had been treated in its emergency room.
At the scene, police said they found blood on the ground in several areas.
Police identified the shooting victim as William Royal Jones, 29, of Newport News, Va. He was shot in the left hand, with the bullet lodging in his jaw, police said. Police said they are investigating.
Jones was transferred to another hospital and was admitted in critical condition, police said Tuesday morning.
