Police: Sayville man attempted to burglarize plumbing business

A Sayville man walking down the street carrying a chisel and wrench was arrested Friday night in the hamlet in connection with an attempted break-in at a nearby plumbing business, police said.
Michael Collins, 41, of Sayville, who was seen walking with a flashlight at about 11:50 p.m., was being interviewed by Fifth Precinct Patrol Officer Michael Ferrara when the attempted burglary call went out, Suffolk County police said.
The officer determined that the suspect used the tools to break a window at Alan S. Gross Plumbing and Heating, at 380 N. Main St., in an attempt to break in, police said.
Collins is charged with third-degree attempted burglary and possession of burglars tools.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
