Suffolk police are trying to identify a bicyclist who was struck by a car and seriously injured in Patchogue on Saturday afternoon.

The man appeared to be trying to cross North Ocean Avenue near the corner of Cedar Avenue around 3:40 p.m. when he was hit by a 2010 Hyundai Elantra, police said.

He suffered head injuries and was rushed by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. Holtsville Fire Department members treated him at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said she did not know whether the bicyclist was wearing a helmet.

The 61-year-old Patchogue woman who was driving the car was not hurt.

Police said they are still investigating the collision but do not suspect a crime was committed.
