Police seek the public's help to identify the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in North Lindenhurst in October. Detectives located the vehicle, identified as a black 2006 Mercedes Benz CL500 registered to Benedict Bacayon, 33, of West Babylon. Credit: SCPD

Investigators know who owns the luxury car that struck and seriously injured a man crossing Route 109 in North Lindenhurst last October.

But police are asking for the public's help to identify who was driving the car when it fled the scene of that hit-and-run crash last fall.

Suffolk County police said the vehicle, a black 2006 Mercedes-Benz CL500, has been located. Police said Wednesday it is registered to Benedict Bacayon, 33, of Albermarle Ave., West Babylon. Police said the car fled after striking Corey Hall, 29, as he crossed Route 109 at East Drive on Oct. 4.

Hall, of Brentwood, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries, police said. The status of his recovery was not immediately known Wednesday.

But police are now asking that anyone with information about who was driving the Mercedes at the time of the crash contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. Callers providing information leading to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.

All calls will remain confidential, police said.
