Detectives are investigating a suspected link between two shooting incidents that occurred hours apart Thursday on a side street in North Amityville, leaving one man wounded.

Suffolk County police said a man was shot at about 4 p.m. on Walnut Road between Center and East streets. The man, whose identity was not released, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators recovered seven shell casings from the street after that shooting.

Almost 7 1/2 hours later, police said there was at least one shot fired into a home on the same block. That shot, at 11:25 p.m., did not result in any injuries.

Police said, however, that a shell casing was recovered from the street at the scene and that a "projectile" was also recovered, but did not release any additional details.

Police said the incidents do not appear random.

A police spokeswoman said detectives are working on the theory that the incidents are related because of their proximity of each other.

First Squad detectives are asking anyone with information call them at 631-854-8152.
