Police subdue man with knife in Water Mill
A knife-wielding man was hit with pepper spray by Southampton police Friday afternoon before he was subdued by officers in Water Mill, police said.
Jesse Amberstone, 19, of Bridgehampton, was charged with attempted assault on a police officer, menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and reckless endangerment.
Southampton police responded to a call about 3:15 p.m. from the Water Mill Commons on Montauk Highway of a man with a knife, police said.
Ordered to drop the knife, Amberstone made slashing motions toward an officer, police said, and was pepper sprayed, handcuffed and taken into custody.
Two officers and Amberstone were treated for minor injuries at Southampton Hospital, police said.
Amberstone was to be arraigned Saturday in Southampton Justice Court.
