A woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries and a man was taken to another hospital with leg injuries after a head-on crash Monday evening in Islip Terrace, police said.

Neither of the injured, both driving vehicles involved in the crash, were identified.

Suffolk County police said the accident occurred on Lowell Avenue near Babylon Street at 6:10 p.m. Police said the woman was driving a 2009 Toyota southbound on Lowell when the man, driving a northbound 2002 Pontiac, crossed the centerline -- and crashed into her head-on.

The woman was admitted to Stony Brook in serious but stable condition, police said.

The man was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with leg injuries. His condition was not known Tuesday.

No one was charged in the crash. Police said the cause was still under investigation.
