A vehicle hit a fire hydrant Sunday night in West Babylon, knocking the hydrant off its base and sending a geyser of water into the air, officials said.
The accident occurred on Great East Neck Road near Raynor Street about 11:20 p.m., Suffolk County police said.
Great East Neck Road was closed in the area as crews worked to stop the water flow. Police said the road reopened just before 2 a.m.
It was not immediately known whether there were any injuries.
