The crash occurred on westbound Montauk near the intersection of Gardiner Drive at 12:33 a.m., Suffolk police said.

Police said the car, a 2008 Ford sedan, left the road, crashed into a wooded area and struck a fence, partially ejecting driver James Kennedy. He was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore via Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance.

Police said he is in critical condition.

The vehicle has been impounded for a safety check and police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352.
